Appellate Advocacy
Ranck and Schwartz attorneys have significant experience in appellate practice before the Wyoming Supreme Court and the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit. We also handle numerous administrative appeals.
Our background in appellate advocacy includes valuable law-clerk experience at both the trial and appellate levels with judges serving the U.S. District Court for the District of Wyoming and the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals. Both Leah Schwartz and William Schwartz served one-year clerkships for the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit, and Leah Schwartz clerked a second year for the United States District Court for the District of Wyoming under Judge Nancy D. Freudenthal.
No matter the forum, the most important step in prevailing on appeal is framing the issues for the appellate tribunal. This requires creative thinking and compelling briefing, not to mention a familiarity with the rules and standards of the appellate court. We pride ourselves on our written work product and maintain a keen interest in the preferences and procedures of the appellate courts in Wyoming.
Our appellate practice often stems from our representation at the level of the trial court or tribunal, but in select matters we also accept discrete appellate engagements. In any appeal, we bring fresh perspective and novel arguments, and we strive to present our clients’ position with the utmost professionalism and credibility.
